Great stuff– except the USB part of this equation. Why is Panasonic allergic to firewire?
Wonder how long a 64G card transfer will take.

Why USB? I’m using the Duel with Express34 on my MBP (and will never be able to run SL due to lack of OS support). And I think it takes long now, with our 16 GB card (although I’m using HD Log with content verification…)

On the other hand, perhaps people will use macbooks that does not have FW?

I don’t get it. USB?? I have two 32G P2 cards. This will NEVER WORK for an in-field solution where we would dump, reformat the card and keep going. At USB 2.0 speed this would be longer than any lunch break for just one card.

When you look at the existing card reader technology why does it cost $350 for essentially a passive device to spit it out over a simple USB output? I have the 17″ MacbookPro with the Express34 slot and upgraded to Snow Leopard to free up Gigs before I found out about the invalidation of my Duel card.

I was fortunate to find out about the Duel incompatibility before I put the SL disc into my MBP 17″…

Hopefully you can downgrade your Mac to 10.5.8 without too much hassle?

Ah, FW for the disk. Sure, that makes sense. I hope Panny was smart enough to put USB 3.0 into the device… :)

A reader for P2 cards… good idea! USB… bad idea!

And this is just one more reason I prefer the RED to Panasonic. I got a standard Firewire 800 CF card reader for $65. Panasonic wants $350 for a USB reader that will only work with their own P2 cards? Ugh….
