Agreed. Microsoft has done an excellent job at giving filmmakers a bad name with this girl. Let’s take a look at some of her films, Microsoft, to see what kind of artist she is.

I certainly have no problem with Microsoft pushing their wares (even though they only make the OS, not the hardware being touting in these spots, as I recall), but I tend to have a problem with them dumbing down their audience. Perhaps they know their market better than I do and these ads will work for them.

I agree, Maybe she is a windows movie maker snob and it would take to much effort to transition to Mac + FCP :). She is a film maker after all…

The most important part is the software and there was no mention of this at all. She described herself as an “artist” – is she really planning on using Movie Maker?

If not, then they should at least acknowledge that she had to pay extra for additional software.

I got the impression she had absolutely no idea what she was looking for – you’re totally right about the RAM. My favorite bit is when she asks about the graphics card and the guy just goes “mmm…” as if he has absolutely no idea and just wants her to hurry up and buy it. It reminded me of this:

One thing I noticed about this one is that she didn’t say the Mac was sexy or cool like the others did. I guess MS realized it probably wasn’t good to imply their competitor’s products were cooler than their own (isn’t that Marketing 101?).

I know lots of professional editors who still have their trusty G4 tower that they still use occasionally when their main machine is busy doing something.

Obviously it’s NICE to have a fast machine with lots of RAM, and it can really speed up your workflow. But you don’t need amazing expensive tools to create great ART. I know many amazing films edited on low-end consumer machines that have won just as many awards, and received just as much positive reviews than your average big Hollywood blockbuster edited together on a high-end Avid suite.

Not to mention…. what is she going to edit on? Premiere? or Vegas? blech!! The $3000 price tag on AVID Media Composer Software pretty much blows that big savings right out the window!
