Are those new M-Audio Bx5a speakers too? If so, is there any particular reason you went with them? And do you connect to them via the Kona?

Those are BX5a speakers. Because they have a darn decent sound, and were on sale.

I have a Tascam FW1082 on my current system that I will be bringing to the new system. That and my Dell monitors and my PVM 14L5 HD CRT monitor. I will be left with my G5, the Kona LH and a single Apple 23″ Cinema display and my Advent speakers. And my CalDigit drives, the Dark Tower I made…and I will look into getting a small 4 channel mixer to monitor audio.

Just waiting on my new system to be delivered as well (should be here on Wed. according to FedEX Tracking info). How much Ram did you end up going with? I was trying to decide wether it would be better to go with 4x4GB or 8x2GB. I figured the 4×4 route would give me some long term upgradability (I can always upgrade to 32GB when the price comes down) but the 8x2GB would be faster now (according to Barefeats).

I choose the 8×2 route, hope I don’t kick myself in 6 months.

BTW…got the matrox box to drive a new 23″ACD. Thanks for all your in-depth reviews…made the decision much easier.

The machine shipped with 2GB, and in the pic you will see two 1GB sticks. I will have a total of 4GB. Maybe more later, but I really don’t need more than that right now. I don’t plan on running 3-4 applications at once. FCP only…MAYBE motion…maybe. I can’t see me getting more than 8GB ever. 32GB? What the HECK are you doing that you need that much RAM? That much RAM costs more than the machine itself!

Good call with the MXO…I really like it.

Thats why I bought 2 used Octocore 3.0ghz macs too Shane….I just can’t afford to put Leopard on machines meant to have 100% up time.

I Used the extra savings in Ram, A kona 3 card and the JVC 24″ HD-SDI monitor you recommended.

My issue is that they OLDER Octo 3.0 costs more than the NEW Octo 3.0…it isn’t a used model, it is a new one, just one that is the previous version.

Nice about that JVC monitor. Iffin I didn’t have an HD CRT, that would be on my list.
