The Duck should work with FCP 6. It's free, so worth a shot. (used to be a LOT more)

" Do I actually have to recapture everything after I used the duck or did you only do that because you already did the online in Avid?"

IF your footage is full resolution coming from FCP...no...the Duck will convert to MXF. That option is for people who want to recapture at higher res.

Oh! And one more question... We're on FCP 6 and it looks like The Duck website only has programs from FCP 7 and up. Any idea if there are any Duck or any other programs that will allow us to do this for FCP6 or will we have to go to FCP 7 then use The Duck?

Thanks again!

Thanks so much for this, Shane! You. are. awesome!

I've been trying to find info on how to convert an FCP offline to Avid for an online and it's all right here! And it also looks like "The Duck" does it all for you almost seamlessly.

I do have 1 question for you though... In the first paragraph you said "...I used Automatic Duck to convert the FCP sequence to an Avid sequence and then I recaptured. " Do I actually have to recapture everything after I used the duck or did you only do that because you already did the online in Avid? I was under the impression that The Duck converted all FCP media files fully so that you didn't have to recapture.

Thanks a bunch, Shane! You've saved me multiple times on creative cow and now on here! :)

Its what you used to I think. I can do a CC/grade on a 45 min ep (heaps of cuts) way quicker than I can in colour. As far as secondaries you hardly use them on quick turnaround show, you only get the best out of them id you really know what your doing. BTW, Symphony does way more than just secondries, infact its the fastist complete system around. Of course thats only true if id the operator is up to spec.

Well, since Avid Symphony's are used to color correct broadcast TV shows, and COLOR is used for the same (as was Final Touch, what it was before Apple bought it)...and I don't think Vegas has ever been used for this except for small commercials or infomercials (what do I know?), that should tell you something.

BUT...I haven't even seen Vegas face to face, so I have no idea. How do you monitor on an external monitor with that software? Is there a capture card for it so that you can see what your image really looks like on an external monitor? Without that, you can't really claim proper color correction.

Interesting read, especially from someone [me] using Vegas 9 and using the colour grade facilities within.
I have not used either Avid or FCP so am wondering - what am I actually missing out on in the colour correction area by using Vegas. Has anyone here used the CC facilities of Vegas and how do they compare. If it comes out that it's CC abilities aren't cutting it I'll consider using an alternative.
Thx

Sweet. Similarly, so happy that color 1.5 finally handles most speed changes accurately. I've been waiting for that since Final Touch 1.3.

There were many speed changes, and freeze frames. Avid got them all, so the Duck transferred them correctly.

Very interesting,

Did you have any constant or variable Speed Changes in the Avid/FCP projects? If so, did you have to rebuild them or is that no longer an issue? In the past that has always been a sticking point going to and from Avid/FCP.
