NIce blog post Judith. Went into more details than I. Yeah, we do tend to get intimate (not in that way!) with the actors and characters they portray because we do study their faces and reactions closely. So there is, in our heads, an intimacy with that person that doesn't really exist...not in the real world. It exists on the show we are on, but meet that person in real life and there's nothing there.

Now, if I can, I try to meet the actors...so I do have at least something. Last night I was at an EVEN STEVENS reunion get-together and a few of the actors who were there knew me. Because as an assistant on the show I did hang out on the set and talk to them.

I made a blog post about this issue a few months ago... and got a good response on Twitter at the time. It seems a fairly universal theme!

Great story. I'm sure most of us have an interesting one. Here's mine. Was working on this show, an OC type show but with actual nakedness on screen. Anyways one night it's 2am and I'm just getting home off the subway and shopping for some dinner at the local 24 hour grocery store, and there's this girl roughly following me as we are doing the same tour of the grocery store and I had this feeling that I knew her from somewhere and it was driving me nuts. Halfway through the store it clicked. Her eyes gave it away, I had just spent 6 hours early that week painting and blending her breasts. She was in a sex scene and had nipple tape on. You could obviously see it so I had to go in and blend it in so it looked like there was none there. Frame by frame.

A witty remark from me and suddenly things are going really well, dinner at my place followed by...

Not really that last part, couldn't actually think of anything to say that wouldn't come off as creepy and I was too tired to care, which is really the true shame. Was relieved when she went to a different check out line as my social filter sometimes malfunctions when I'm tired...

This is so true. I occasionally see people in the street that I have edited and I ALMOST say something, until I remind myself that they have no idea who I am. Always feels pretty awkward.

OMG, that's so true! I remember editing someone for the entire day who I had never actually met. Then me and the director went out and she was there. I felt like I knew her personally, even though we had never met, it was rather odd feeling. I remember saying, "I've been editing you all day, I feel like I know you"; she looked at me like - what a wierdo...
