Hey Shane,

To the person in NZ, I did reply, the best bet is to buy from Australia, somewhat local support.

JonatCalDigit

MyBook is a consumer backup drive. I wouldn't recommend them for this purpose. We had 4 at work, and 2 died. The company then bought the G-Drives. But i like the MaxxDigital one.

Shane, just noticed this posting, so maybe I'm a bit late. Wondering if you've used/heard of the Western Digital My Book Studio II (2 TB), @ $494.99. Yes, it's got a power brick and no case, but sporting twice the space (and two drives for RAID).

I have the Firewire VR...love it. I also have G-Tech G-Drives, and I like them. Other World Computing has good drives too. Dunno what you have access to in NZ. All that GORGEOUS landscape, limited access to technology. I'd take that over what I have here any day.

Hi Shane

I've currently only got on of those cheap MacPower vertical standing Firewire drives, I think I saw one a long time ago on this blog in a photo.

I need to upgrade, after reading your review on the Caldigit FireWireVR I thought that'd be the best option for me (right now I've only got a MacBook, so it's FW400, but when I upgrade FW800 is going to be enough for the throughput of two drives in RAID, I think. This means eSATA isn't necessary until I have more than 2 drives in an enclosure).

Would you agree? If so, the next problem would be trying to get one in NZ, Caldigit haven't replied... yet.
