We just purchased the new P2 Flow from MXF4MAC. It's incredible fast and imports metadata too. We tested Calibrated but it's very slow in FCP.

Calibrated works well on my system - FCP 6.0.4 - but when I edit the HD footage it is very slow to load up (albeit we shot 1440x1080) - does nayone know if there's a way to compress the MXF file without having to transfer it to a QT version fisrt?

I don't have MXF4MAC on my system anymore...I can't have too many thing like that...can't have Raylight AND Calibrated AND MXF4MAC...they'd all conflict. So I removed the others and only have Raylight.

But the timecode is embedded on the VIDEO file, not any of the other folders in the contents folder, so timecode should carry. Reguardless, if you lack a proper P2 structure, then Raylight should be your tool of choice.

And don't do that again....try to keep the structure whenever possible.

calibrated seems to use the xmls to link audio and video and read timecode. if have couple of pure p2 mxf files without the contents folder and they dont open with audio and timecode

mxf4mac reads timecode without xml, do you see this also?

thanks Shane, so Calibrated's component seems to be a great choice for P2 users ... I'm hoping they ramp up their codec compatibility and bring the goodness to other MXF wrapped codecs too

OK...well, I installed it and it allows you to open the files in Quicktime, but it doesn't tie audio to the video. Not in QT nor in FCP. In fact, looking at the picture provided on the web site for that software, they have a SHOW MOVIE PROPERTIES window open, and AUDIO is not listed.

When I uninstalled MXF4QT, and reinstalled Calibrated, and then opened that in QT and looked at the movie properties, I did see Video, all 4 audio channels, and timecode.

And on the MXF4QT site...I don't see any pricing nor any way to buy it.

You know, I did try that one out, but couldn't figure it out because I couldn't get it working properly. I'll try again, as I have some free time on my hands now. What I like about that one is that according to the site it too retains metadata.

OK...here I go, trying it again.

hey Shane
have you tried mxf4mac's mxf4qt components?
(note: this is not the similarly named flp4mac product)

http://mxf4mac.com/products/mfx4qt/

how does it compare?
