I've been waiting for this for my octocore macs as well. Being able to move it from edit station to station with out cracking a case is a win-win situation. I hate the idea of an internal card that becomes obsolete when the new systems decide to use a new bus structure.

Like you Shane, I'm waiting on replacing my PB G4 with a new Macbook Pro until the new ones come out. Of course, I'll still probably hang on to th e old beast as it is the best way right now for me to offload the P2 cards in the field.

Yup...only captures at ProRes...or DVCPRO HD...and any of the SD formats, like DVCPRO 50 or uncompress 8-bit or 10-bit SD. Uncompressed HD it doesn't do...and never claimed that it would ever do. If you need uncompressed HD, then the Kona LH or Kona 3 are your options.

But you do know that ProRes 422 has uncompressed HD quality at uncompressed SD file sizes, right? It is a direct competitor to the Avid DNxHD codec, that many many Avid editors use as a finishing codec. ProRes is a codec that really should be looked at and tested. The drive and space requirements are very low, and quality still high (I have seen examples and they are good)...

So that review makes it sound like the IO HD only does ProRes. Is that the case? If so, Kona 3 makes a whole lot more sense for most systems.
