I know...I'll leave the techie stuff to the assistants. Gonna get spoiled again. I think Assistant editors are a crucial part of this process...beed so long without them that I forget how nice it is to have them.

My mom had a crush on Alan Ladd...and love the name. Thus why I named what I am.

Have to agree with Andrew here. The AEs are being paid to do the tech etc. You are being paid to be creative. IMHO, I would focus 100 percent on the creative. Put all of that filthy tech crap out of your head and enjoy.

OT: Caught Shane on TCM the other night and thought of you :)

If you didn't have AEs you wouldn't be lazy because you have no choice (lazy editors don't make very useful DVDs on project organization, btw), but since you have AEs let them worry about the machine so you can just worry about the story, IMO. This will also help the AEs root out bigger problems if they are made aware every time something goes wrong (are the symptoms local or office wide, etc.,).

When I AE'd I didn't want my editors to worry about anything except cutting. I'll capture the stuff, I'll organize the project, I'll fix anything that blows up. You edit a good show, enjoy not worrying about tech stuff, and remember to take me along when you get on a bigger gig. ;)

Of course once you are done w/this show and back at your house you'll probably be like, "Having AEs was nice, but it's good to get my hands dirty again..."

Good point...good point. If I didn't have assistants though, would I be this lazy? Am I better off being this lazy and concentrating ONLY on the cut?

Perhaps...

Well, to be fair yer getting paid to be "creative" not "techie" so it makes sense that you are in full "creative" mode. Sometimes I find myself being careless too (mostly w/organization) and just chuckle as I hear a little "AE voice" in the back of my head yelling at me for being a "lazy editor."
